Art disciplines: Ceramics, Jewellery, Printmaking, Textiles
Wendy Lloyd and Ursula Waechter will be joined this year by the exciting young jeweller, Megan Bailey at Wendy’s studio in Westfields, close to central Newbury.
Wendy continues to experiment with print, textile and mixed media, combining traditional and experimental techniques to create work largely inspired by nature and landscape. Her prints incorporate mainly intaglio techniques including collagraph, drypoint and etching; she also enjoys using monotype, chine collé and block printing. In her textile work Wendy incorporates hand and machine stitch with collage. The work she will be showing in May ranges from framed and mounted prints and textile pieces to cards, covered sketchbooks, and hand-dyed scarves, t-shirts and bags.
Ursula makes earthenware pottery for use and decoration. She throws most of her work on the potter’s wheel and hand paints using oxide mixtures and bright stains. Her ceramics are decorated using a combination of calligraphic brushwork, resist and sgrafitto where lines are drawn through the colour back to the glaze. Most recently Ursula has been working on designs with a mid-century feel applied to mugs and plant holders of different sizes. Ursula accepts commissions and teaches throwing and decorating at her workshop.
Megan designs and creates chunky sterling silver jewellery, working exclusively with recycled materials including coins and cutlery. Each design is hand-carved from wax and brought to life through the ancient technique of sand-casting. No two pieces are the same: perfectly imperfect. Megan also accepts commissions and will be showcasing bold textures, shapes and elevated everyday basics.
On street parking is limited, though usually available and we are a 5 minute walk from the Kennet Centre car park or a delightful walk along the canal from the town centre.
