Ursula Waechter

Art disciplines: Ceramics
I make earthenware pottery for use and decoration. Most of my work is thrown on the potters wheel; non-round shapes are press-moulded. I hand-paint my designs with oxide mixtures and bright stains. The decoration techniques I use are either a combination of a resist technique using latex wax with sgrafitto – using a sharp tool with which I cut through the applied colour back to the white glaze or calligraphic painting using chisel and pointed brushes.
Most recently I have been working on designs with a mid-century feel which I apply to mugs and plant holders of different sizes.
I will have my blue-green high-fired range on display and some quirky items with African animal transfer designs.
I accept lettered commissions for wedding bowls and plates and items celebrating the birth of a child – there are many examples on the Commissions page on my website. I also offer individual tuition in throwing and decorating at my workshop at 50b Folly Farm RG26 5GJ off the A339 between Kingsclere and Basingstoke – I am opposite the egg shed.
I have a small showroom, if you want to purchase directly from me.
