Slipware & Yew Vessel

Art disciplines: Ceramics, Sculpture, Textiles, Woodworking

Colin Underhay.
After graduating from college with a Degree in Graphic design in 1980 I spent the next ten years working as an illustrator and model maker. By the early nineties I had switched to working with wood, mostly on traditional timber framed buildings and larger structures. Recently I have gone back to designing and making sculptural benches and forms as well as turning. These pieces are predominantly constructed from local English oak incorporating the natural curves and characteristics of the wood itself.
Sally Bettridge.
I trained as a production thrower and so my wheel is my most precious tool. I am showing a range of slip decorated, high fired earthenware forms which explore my love of the fluidity of traditional coloured slip decoration. The decoration of this soft surface is inspired by nature through photographs, found objects and drawings which combine with the language of thrown pots. I employ the traditional techniques of throwing and slip trailing to make my pieces in batches of the same form.
I also make a range of garden pots and I always have a new project or set of work to show each year for Open Studios and will be demonstrating a range of techniques throughout Open Studios.
