Art disciplines: Drawing and painting

I’m inspired by the wild places. The landscapes of Dartmoor, Bodmin moor, and the Scottish highlands & Islands. And those further afield in Scandinavia, Iceland, the Faroes, the Baltic islands and the mountains of Northern Spain.

I attempt to capture the fleeting images created by the constantly changing cloudscapes and light in such places. Initially with pencil sketches in the field and then later with watercolours in the studio. I favour loose, wet in wet, techniques whose effects can be as unpredictable as the weather. Often simplifying scenes to the point of abstraction but, hopefully, retaining their essence.
