Plein Air Watercolour Sketchbook with Kevin Scully is a one-day outdoor painting workshop on Saturday, 9th May 2026, 10am-4pm, at Jackson’s Studio One at Griffin Mill. Located in Thrupp, near Stroud, in Gloucestershire, Griffin Mill is an atmospheric converted Victorian mill in the heart of the stunning Cotswolds. All abilities welcome.

A day spent painting along the canal near Griffin Mill, working in sketchbooks using watercolour or your favourite water-based medium. Your sketches can become the basis for future paintings or serve as a visual reminder of your day painting en plein air.

You will be shown how to choose the best viewpoints and given advice on composition, materials, and equipment, what to include in your sketches and, importantly, what to leave out. Kevin will share examples of different approaches to filling a sketchbook and will provide demonstrations throughout the day.

We will meet at Pegasus at 10am for a brief introduction to the workshop before heading out. Please be prepared for a five-minute walk on flat ground to the painting location.

Should the weather be unfavourable at any time, photographic reference will be provided so you can continue working in the studio. Your paintings can be simple sketches or more detailed studies, depending on your preference. If you’ve never painted outside before, this is your opportunity to experience painting en plein air.
