Art disciplines: Printmaking
I am a Newbury based printmaker whose inspiration and passion is for birds. I am in a phase whereas I am developing my practice to add more narrative to my work to challenge and extend my process. Harmonising the bird with a background that is supportive but also informative will be a new challenge for me using stencils and curiosity trays. I would like viewers to make an instant connection not just with the species of bird but also the story within the image or collection. This year I will be focusing on British folklore and superstition as it is something that has interested me throughout my life. The tales and rhymes we have all grown up with whether it is saying good morning to magpies or singing about Blackbirds being baked in a pie. I aim to dig into the symbology of Swallows carrying the souls of drowned sailors or the fabled NightJar drinking the blood of goats. I hope to spotlight the uniqueness of birds and their place in British heritage and history.
