Alison Keeling

Art disciplines: Ceramics
Ally Keeling is a ceramicist and experienced, qualified art and ceramics teacher. She originally trained at Bath Academy of Art completing a BA Hons in Ceramics and 3D Design. She has taught art and ceramics in schools for much of her career.
Her current work is predominantly focused on vessel forms. Growing up in Wales established her interest in landscape and her ceramic pieces take inspiration from the colours, patterns, textures and forms observed from her rural surroundings. Using hand building techniques such as coiling and slab building, alongside thrown work on the potters wheel, pieces are made from stoneware clay and fired to a high oxidised temperature. Textural surfaces are developed before the first firing, using incised marks and sgraffito patterns, applying combinations of oxides and coloured slips to create layered surfaces. Exterior surfaces tend to be matte or satin in finish to enhance the texture and colour beneath.
All domestic ware is watertight, dishwasher proof and suitable for food use.
Ally is an experienced qualified art teacher who runs pottery classes from her home studio in Leckhampstead, together with workshops and weekly pottery clubs that she teaches in a nearby school.
