Art disciplines: Drawing and painting
From a young age, I’ve been immersed in the world of drawing and painting, with pencils and acrylics as my go-to mediums. Being a self-taught artist, I’m always eager to push my boundaries, constantly experimenting with new techniques and styles to broaden my artistic horizons.
My freelance business thrives on pet and people portrait commissions, showcased in my online portfolio. Among my notable works is an acrylic painting titled ‘Friends at Lulworth Cove,’ depicting my own two dogs. This piece was selected for exhibition at the Patching Art Centre in Nottingham and subsequently garnered the TALP Young Artist of the Year 2024 award.
My artistic inspirations span from the timeless works of Van Gogh and Monet to the contemporary brilliance of Sky Arts PAOTY winners Morag Caister and Samira Addo. Although the majority of my work is centred around pet and animal portraits, I began my artistic journey in people portraiture. Drawing and painting human beings is what allowed me to develop my observation skills and to deeply understand perspective, shadows and highlights as well as capturing likeness and personality. In recent years, I have been developed my landscape painting expertise both with acrylic paints and watercolours, using my love for photography as a means of sourcing my own original imagery.
Outside of commissioned work, my personal art often explores places and people of significant personal meaning. For example, “Friends at Lulworth Cove” was created as a reflection on the loss of my two childhood dogs, Wally and Ted. I’ve developed a distinctive pixelated/block style in my paintings, achieved with square and flat brushes. In contrast, my landscapes come alive with thick, 3D textures created using palette knives. A signature element of my practice is the use of limited color palettes, typically just three or four colors, which lends a cohesive and harmonious feel to my pieces.
