Sherry’s ability to capture the atmosphere of a fleeting moment in the landscape is vital to her paintings, catching the way light transforms the ordinary into the awesome is special for Sherry. Transforming what was experienced into paint on canvas is a sublime experience. A completed painting has to touch something in her or it doesn’t leave the studio.
Sherry’s paintings are about place not of a place, visual echos of random moments, exploring what the atmosphere , light, season and, time of day, was like to experience .
She works in oils for their depth of colour and ability to hold marks. The paintings are both visual and tactile, she works spontaneously with large brushes , pallet knives, and fingers, building colour into quiet and vigorous passages . The landscapes have a narrative without being representative, the moments they portray are special and have their stories to tell.
