I make pottery for use and decoration. The traditional technique I work with is called Maiolica; brush-painted tin-glazed earthenware. I throw most of my work on the potters wheel with oblong and square shapes being press moulded.
I use different decorating techniques utilising the qualities of the tin glaze, eg providing a white background and giving a bright colour response. I decorate with oxide mixtures and bright stains using calligraphic brush marks, resist and sgrafitto techniques.
I also make a range of high fired blue-green earthenware for which I use a coloured tin glaze over a painted white slip.
In another new range I use printed transfers of African animals on top of a white tin glaze.
I accept lettered commissions and offer individual tuition in throwing and decorating in my workshop at Folly Farm RG26 5GJ - just off the A33p between Kingsclere and Basingstoke.
