I have been working with stained glass for some 20 years. I initially learnt the art and design of leaded stained glass from Paul San Casciani at West Dean College, and followed this up with later courses on copper foiling, fusing, kiln formed and glass painting. In more recent years Val Green at Scarborough Stained Glass, which is well known in the North East for ecclesiastical and celebratory secular stained glass windows and panels, has been my mentor in creating glass panels and sculptures for home and religious use.
In Sheffield I took part in Open Studio annually, attracting a regular clientele, and had work accepted at the Great Sheffield Art Show.
I returned to designing, creating and displaying stained glass after my move to Silchester and recent retirement from being the resident vicar.
I work in various ways with leaded and fused stained glass – leaded as typically found in stained glass windows; copper foil for lighter more decorative work; and fused generally for objects. However, in my current work I am combining these techniques to produce a variety of textures and features which seek to express in abstract form the emotions and meaning which inspired the original drawing.
