During recent “Lockdowns,” we all began to appreciate our public spaces and nature much more than we had before. Public parks and local rural landscapes have always inspired me. Recently, in addition to these, I have begun to consider areas of less obvious immediate natural charm for inspiration; the ordinary, the overgrown and ignored places, often passed by, but which can in a certain light or weather, still turn out to have their own distinctive aesthetic.
My paintings are a synthesis of observation, contemplation, sensation, and experience of a particular place based on direct studies. I hope they will have longevity, and any observer will always find something revealing in them and will gain enough pleasure from them to want to revisit. I would like to think that anyone viewing them would enjoy reflecting on their own relationship with nature through the scenes I paint.
