My work is driven by themes of 'text / texture / landscape' with storytelling at its heart.
Words came off the page to create their own forms in ceramic scripts. Some in wall mounted pieces, others in standalone 'poem vessels' showing how, like coracles, our stories travel with us. I imagine in future times my scripted pieces may be found, washed up on the shore, embedded in rough surfaced clay vessels, perhaps revealing glossy, shell – like interiors. ‘The end of words?’
The exhibition 'Danebury - Past and Present Footsteps' at the Museum of the iron Age in 2022 provided an opportunity to explore and respond to an historic site, and led to unexpected outcomes.
This year at Whitway we have chosen to investigate themes from the ancient world, and will share our explorations in Open Studios 2023.
