I live and work in Hampshire, my studio is in the garden.
My contemporary landscape paintings are reflective, impressions of places I know well or have visited, expressive responses to seasonal changes, and tricks of the light that quickly pass
Working in oils, or acrylic mixed media the paintings create visual echoes of my reactions to contact with the environment. I aspire to capture an essence of place, how it seemed at that moment and recreate that atmosphere in paint. I use a spontaneous impasto technique that builds colour and texture into contrasting quiet and vigorous passages,
Preparation to start a painting, involves study, sketching, and note taking on site before I make the first the critical marks on a blank canvas. I relish the seasonal moods and changes of the landscape, and create my paintings in tune with the seasons.
