I use clay to make figurative sculptures and illustrated vessels and am always looking for meaning in the random and irrelevant. In my current work I am having fun exploring character through pose, facial expression and sometimes text. I enjoy the suggestions of stories that develop and the dynamics within a group of figures. My intention is to draw you in, to make you smile, to fire your imagination.
I have taught locally for many years, running the Art Department at Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common and the Ceramics Department at The Henley College for a while. My most recent post was in the Art department at St Bartholomew’s School in Newbury. I now spend most of my time in my studio creating work for gallery’s, shows and commissions. I still enjoy teaching and can also be found running workshops and evening classes locally (details below).
This year I’m being represented by several galleries, including New Ashgate Gallery in Farnham, Bell Fine Art in Winchester, New Brewery Arts in Cirencester and Bluestone Gallery in Hay on Wye. I’m also a guest artist at Achtung Kunsthandwerk! BDK Stuttgart (Mar – Sept) and at Studio 3, Clevedon (June – Sept) and will be taking my work to Celebrating Ceramics at Waterperry Gardens, Oxford in July and September Ceramics at City Arts, Newbury in September. You can also find my work online in my Etsy Shop and in the Newbury Art Collective shop.
