I have been a woodworker for the last 30 years with a break of 13 years from 2000-2013 teaching Design & Technology at a Comprehensive School. I am happy to say that I am back ploughing my furrow or indeed routing my rebate.
For me to enjoy this noble trade I put the wood as the star of the show. Indeed excessive craft can emasculate the virility of such a material. So I decided to use the wood in general and grain in particular to be my guide in a very literal sense with some interesting results.
I make furniture, turn bowls and create totems and sculpture.
As well as my work at Charles St during Open Studios, I am showcasing my sculptures on the grounds of Donnington Grove Hotel, Newbury.
I run a gallery part of Ace Space Arts Workshop in Newbury where I have exhibited over 50 artists.
I also curate Altered States Open Air Exhibition at Shaw House, Newbury where 60 sculptures will be shown from July 30-September 25 this year.
This, before you, is the result, I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I have.
