My landscape and abstract paintings are not images of a ‘place’ but about ‘place’, emotional responses to places I know well and impressions of fleeting moments that must be captured before they are lost. The landscape is a mass of constantly changing vibrant colour, I paint in tune with the seasons, seasonal change stimulates my ideas and themes.
Working mostly with acrylics every one of my marks must have a purpose to create visual echoes of my reactions and emotions suggested by close contact with the environment. I use an impasto technique that builds colour and textured marks into contrasting quiet and vigorous passages, creating visual and tactile interest.
Reflective study, memory, sketches, photographic images and written notes are all a supportive part of my creative process. For more information about my work please visit sherryedmondsonartist.com
