Katherine Kingdon

Teapot / Ceramic / 12cm tall

I use domestic scale ceramics to play with character and storytelling.
Figures are caught mid-action and I aim for a playful ambiguity, designed to draw you in and challenge your imagination. There’s storytelling going on, but it’s not just any story. It’s your story. The characters emerge from the clay, your creative brain does the rest.

Each piece is hand-built with a playful freedom that starts in my sketchbook. Surface imagery is applied to a satin soft background, then incised and modelled. Pops of glaze and underglaze bring it all to life.

This year I’m represented by several galleries, including Byard Art, Cambridge; Craft, Bath; Fitch and Fellows, Thame; Sota Gallery, Witney; Bluestone Gallery, Hay on Wye; Brightwater Gallery, Alnwick; Studio Vault, Settle: Cove Gallery Weymouth; and Found Gallery, Dunbar You can also find work in my Etsy shop.

My studio is open by appointment throughout the year
