I work as a silhouettist. For many years my work has explored shadow portraits and silhouettes as an art form, both historical and contemporary. What does it mean to place the face in shadow? A silhouette is both present and absent at the same time. This dual state fascinates me and has led me on a long journey of discovery.
I enjoy placing silhouettes in unexpected places and making them from unexpected materials. Looking at the profile as a single line I explore the space both inside and outside the line to see what I can do with it.
The latest work is a series of paper cuttings and drawings which I began during lockdown. Many are being exhibited here for the first time.
