Since moving out to Burghclere from Newbury some years ago I walk everyday in the lanes and byways that weave about in the beautiful countryside here. The wonderful views to the south, of Ladle Hill and Beacon Hill provide a backdrop that is ever changing in the shifting seasons and is the source of much of my inspiration as an artist, challenging though it always is. Trees and fields and the lanes from which they are observed are always important elements in my work, whether photographed or sketched , and from the resulting oil pastel studies as my guide I proceed with the painting.
Although graduating as a fine art student many years ago, I have spent the bulk of my working life as a gardener, in a commercial, private and therapeutic setting, and my love of the ’ outdoors ‘ continues of course to this day, and I believe, informs my deep appreciation of nature and my continued aim to express this through landscape painting.
