I visited two very different coastal areas last year. The Hayle estuary and the Outer Hebrides. The estuary is a wide airy space especially when the tide is out. large tracts of sand and rivulets with birds and skeletons of boats and other bits and pieces sticking out of the sand, and a view of Godrevy light house in the distance. Stunning. There may be work on the Hebrides as well.
I am a ceramic artist and through my love of texture discovered 'accidental moments of beauty' in my local urban landscape and I want to emulate these surfaces in my work. I have been photographing my local landscape walking the alleyways to photograph the marks that the weather and local graffiti artist have left on the garage doors and outbuildings. My pieces of work are based on some of the photos I have taken.

Using my observational sketches of landscapes, harbours, people, and wildlife, I create unusual contemporary work from paper, fabric, paint and stitch. This complements and contrasts with my other work in pastels, inks, acrylics and watercolours.
I create ceramic collages and assemblages inspired by the landscape. By capturing the essence of a place, working from a series of moments, relying on memories and emotions evoked, I explore colour and mark making with a vibrant and intuitive energy, creating expressive paintings on fired earth.
