West Berkshire Museum will show Cover to Cover during May, an exhibition of the six-month long sketchbook exchange project that has taken place between 36 Open Studios artists, organised in six groups.

This year the artists worked to themes broadly provided by the West Berkshire Museum which include Scale, Materials, Texture, Local History, West Berkshire Places and Colour. Each artist was given a sub-theme for their sketchbook to explore an aspect of their group’s theme. For example, artists exploring Materials will look at Architecture, Use of materials, Raw, Modern, Old and Unexpected, as sub-themes. After starting their books with a few drawings, artists within a group exchanged books and worked on other sub-themes, thus learning from each other and enriching their thought process.

In addition, each group created an original poster exploring their group’s subject and the six original posters (hand printed as a limited edition) will also be displayed at the museum.

Come and see the result of this innovative collaborative project, and browse calmly through all the participating sketchbooks on display. Enjoy the richness of exploration and inspiration created by local artists.
