Rock, Paper, Scissors
Drawing, Painting, Printmaking
Landscape is explored through a various combination of processes; print, drawing and painting. The focus is often solid structures in outdoor spaces, making their mark on softer more fluid surroundings. Rocks and man made constructions have a particular relationship with the land which constantly changes and is of great interest to me. This includes local landscape as well as reflecting on my travels in the US.
Whether landscape or abstract, there is always a constant that underpins my practice...dramatic intense colour with an energy that 'glows'. I work predominantly in oils, layering glazes of colour using brush, knife and pipette.
I have a Masters in Fine Art Painting having trained at Chelsea, Camberwell, and Winchester Schools of Art.
Combining organic materials allows me to show new beginnings, contrasts, harmonies and connections. Materials speak for themselves through their visual and tactile qualities. Revealing and emphasizing this honest beauty is at the heart of my sculptures and makes each of them a totally unique piece of work. Drawing, Painting, Mixed media
Nature's shapes inspire me - the pattern of leaves blurred against a white sky, the profile of land texturised by rocks and grasses. I work mostly with acrylics because of their adaptability, their delicacy and strength. They enable me to draw with a brush or paint with a stick. I love drawing and I love experimenting - working with marks upon the page or paint on canvas - pushing, scratching, erasing, teasing out the story by whatever means. I don't always know where I am going when I start a piece, but I know when I have arrived!
